iPhone & iPad users can now use AI if they the Brave Browser! Brave announced that their Leo AI assistant is now available for iOS, weeks after it was launched for Android.

New Features of Brave Leo AI Assistant for iOS

Leo AI will be available to the Brave Browser in iOS with the version 1.63 update. With this new smart assistant, Apple owners can summarise PDFs, create content and translate pages directly on the Brave Browser installed on their iPhone or iPad. 

How to use Brave Leo?

1. Open the browser, start typing in the address bar and then click ‘Ask Leo.’ Leo will then be activated and help you with your query.
2. For an on-page chatting experience, iOS users can tap ‘…’ and then select ‘Leo’ to start using it.

Leo can be disabled at any time simply by going to ‘Settings’, tapping Leo and disabling autocomplete suggestions in the address bar on the browser. 

Leo is capable of performing several amazing tasks such as:

• Generate summaries of websites and PDFs in real-time
• Get insights from documents by asking questions directly on the page immediately
• Generate long-form written content articles, reports and e-mails.
• Translate, analyze, or rewrite pages
• Generate and suggest code for multiple programming languages
• Create transcriptions of videos or audio

Leo enables natural conversations since this AI is built right into the browser. Users can directly ask questions (like giving a prompt in ChatGPT), and get it answered.

Voice-to-Text exclusive to iOS

There is one specific feature that will be only available for iOS. Brave integrates voice-to-text functionality in iOS to let users speak prompts directly to Leo, which are then converted from spoken words to written text without the need for typing.

This feature makes it easier for users to prompt Leo, as they can avoid the hassle of typing long prompts.

Other than that, most features are similar to its Android counterpart. It helps summarize files of different extensions such as PDFs. It analyzes the content and provides a summary thus making it much easier for users to consume such dense content on a small screen.

Brave has also integrated Google Docs and Sheets into Leo thus helping to boost productivity on a mobile phone. It can generate summaries of any Google Doc, translate the content, and analyze data present on a Google Sheet.

Which LLM does Leo AI use?

Leo gives users access to several high-quality LLMs that ensure better and more relevant answers to niche questions. Leo uses Mixtral 8x7B as the default LLM for iOS devices.

Mixtral can interact in various languages such as English, French and German. It also gives access to other LLMs like Claude Instant and Llama 2 13B with limited use. However, Leo Premium provides access to all three LLMs with a higher utilization rate.

How does Brave ensure Privacy?

Since Brave presents itself as privacy-preserving, Leo ensures that all its chats are private and secure. It doesn’t record chats or use them for any training purposes. Also, no account or login is required to use Leo.

• Reverse Proxy: All requests made to Leo are proxied through an anonymization server so the request and user cannot be linked.
• Discarded Responses: Conversations are not stored on Brave’s servers. Responses from Leo are discarded immediately after they’re generated. These responses are not used for model training.
• No account required for access: Users do not need to create a Brave account to use the free version of Leo.
• Unlinkable subscription: By subscribing to Leo Premium, users receive unlinkable tokens that verify their subscription status when accessing Leo. This added layer of security ensures that Brave cannot correlate your purchase information with your product usage, guaranteeing your activity remains private and solely yours.

Note that if the user selects a model from Anthropic, that data will be processed by Anthropic for 30 days and then discarded.
