Now ChatGPT can read out your generated answers, thanks to its new feature “Read Aloud”. This is a great enhancement from OpenAI, filling a need for a missing reading assistant. Now you can even say goodbye to the hassles of reading vast amounts of generated content and save up time for yourself. Let’s look deeper into it!
Key Highlights:
- OpenAI’s ChatGPT rolls out a brand-new feature “Read Aloud”.
- Can read aloud your generated content responses and also texts from images that you choose to upload.
- Currently rolled out limitedly to a selective number of users with GPT Plus access.
What Can You Do with “Read Aloud” by ChatGPT?
The Read Aloud feature in ChatGPT will allow users to have the responses read out by an AI voice assistant. The feature was silently rolled out to iOS, Android, and Web platforms.

On iOS or Android, tap and hold the message and then tap “Read Aloud”. We’ve also started rolling on web – click the "Read Aloud" button below the message. pic.twitter.com/KevIkgAFbG
But there are a few other benefits that you can enjoy with this new rollout.
Firstly, you will also be able to change the tone of the AI voice assistant while it reads out your answers. The tune can be selected, set, and changed across five options namely: Ember, Breeze, Juniper, Cove, and Sky.
Isn’t it great to personalize what you want to hear and how you want to hear? OpenAI is here to solve all your issues and abide by your preferences.
Secondly, the voice assistant can also read aloud texts from photos or images that you choose to upload. This amazing feature will now enable users to extract texts in the form of audio snippets from image-based multimedia.
If you have a habit of missing out on texts and factual information from images or find difficulty in reading texts from captured photos, with OpenAI’s “Read Aloud”, say goodbye to all these previous hassles and experience a new beginning.
OpenAI stated that Read Aloud might “come in handy when using ChatGPT on the go, in moments when you need to be hands-free, or in instances where hearing a message out aloud helps you understand it better.”
How Can You Access It?
The Read Aloud feature is available below the generated responses to the leftmost side of the icons in the form of a speaker, for Web and Mobile applications. You can also click on the response and select the ‘Read Aloud’ button from the menu.
It is said that it is currently available to a selective number of users of GPT plus subscribers. So there has been limited access to the tool as of right now, just like OpenAI’s SORA Video Generation Tool.
It is reported that this new feature can speak 37 languages after auto-detecting the language of the text. Previously OpenAI’s voice memo feature on Mobile was great to have as a conversational partner however it still lacked the potential to respond via audio snippets.
Read Aloud sets the standards high for ChatGPT in the field of GenAI tools by introducing a brand new experience of reading out generated content which was in high demand by users.
Conclusion
OpenAI has silently made the move to enhance the ChatGPT experience with ‘Read Aloud’. However, we are yet to know its full capabilities before we make any assumptions about its potential. Yet credit has to be given where it is due, that being said we must acknowledge that it is a great enhancement, making a smoother experience for users worldwide.
